Beacon Academy offers students a challenging curriculum and academic support that prepares them to enter independent secondary school environments with confidence. Our first-year academic program aims to give our students the ability to write clear, forceful English, a wide exposure to literature, a thorough grounding in mathematics and quantitative analysis, and a deep knowledge of history and how it relates to their own lives. We emphasize problem-solving, collaborative education, inclusive learning, and sensitivity to students’ cognitive styles. Our small classes foster a high degree of student-teacher interaction, and our teachers are committed to providing academic support by individually addressing each student’s areas for growth.

By the end of the Academy Year at Beacon Academy, our students have read and annotated eight books, learned to write a convincing essay, mastered pre-algebra and algebra, discussed the Facing History curriculum, religion, and current events, studied the art of observation at the MFA, the ICA, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and gotten a feel for different sports like running a 5K, swimming at the YMCA, and rowing on the Charles River. With these tools and a deep passion to learn, they leave their Beacon Academy Year prepared to succeed in challenging secondary school environments.
